Redundancy Termination Letter (with notice period)

Where the number of current roles within a business exceeds the number required to run the company going forward, job redundancies normally occur.

If you have decided redundancies need to be made and which roles will be made redundant (including selecting which employees you will let go), the next important step is to tell the employee your decision, in writing.

At this stage an employer has two options:
1)   Ask an employee to work their employment notice period.
2)   Let the employee go straight away (and not work their notice period).

This redundancy employment termination letter advises an employee that their role and they are being made redundant. It also confirms that you will require them to work their notice period and outlines the following:

  • Statutory redundancy pay due (provided they satisfy employment eligibility conditions).
  • Any additional redundancy payment due.
  • Contractual notice period (and that you would like them to work their notice).
  • Contractual entitlements and requirements (such as holiday pay, benefits and work references).
  • Employment termination date.
  • Assistant the company will provide during the redundancy notice period.
  • Right of appeal against the redundancy decision.
