Retirement Notification and Confirmation Letter
If you're faced with an aging workforce, you might be concerned that you can’t retire staff at 65 years (since the UK Age Discrimination Legislation came into effect in October 2006).
Whilst having older workers can be very positive, the retirement age for employees can still be laid down (for example, at 65 years).
However, you need to follow a set procedure and timescale to avoid possible age discrimination. Use this standard letter and notes to plan your retirements, transfer skills before they’re lost and adhere to your duty to consider requests to work beyond 65.
The focus of this letter and explanatory notes is on:
- planning for retirement
- confirming termination and notice period
- adhering to the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations
- notifying contractual rights and entitlements
- inviting and dealing with requests to work beyond retirement
- setting out exit procedures and exit interview
