Verbal warning confirmation

Verbal warnings usually form the first stage of the formal disciplinary process.

Even though such warnings are of a verbal nature, it is still important to document and communicate all action taken and decisions reached.

This confirmation note clearly informs an employee of:

  • Specific behaviour or performance that needs improving.
  • Expected improvement levels required.
  • Reasons for the decision being taken.
  • Timeframe within which behaviour or performance needs to be improved.
  • The next course of action and further disciplinary action, should they not improve.
  • Help or assistance that will be provided to help them improve.
  • Their right to appeal.

If an employee fails to improve and further disciplinary action is taken, this confirmation note will help you prove you informed an employee of your concerns and gave them an opportunity to improve.
