Absence and Attendance Problem Letter
Use these two letters to manage periods of short-term or persistent absence and attendance problems.
These two letters are aimed at helping an employer formally record their concerns about absence and attendance problems, and can form the initial stages of any resulting disciplinary, ill-health or incapability action.
Meeting Invitation Letter
Use this letter to invite an employee to attend a meeting to:
- discuss periods of short-term absence or intermittent sick leave
- explore the reasons for absence or sickness
- outline the company's concerns
- agree a plan of action going forward
- confirm disciplinary action should things not improve
Meeting Outcome Letter
Use this letter to confirm the outcome of the above meeting, including:
- confirming periods of and reasons for short-time absence or sickness leave
- outline company concerns and employee agreed actions to improve attendance
- outline assistance that will be provided to help an employee improve their attendance record
- confirm timeframe from improvement
- specify whether, and when, a medical opinion will be sought
- any agreed action resulting from the meeting
- confirmation of what, if any, action will result should sickness absence levels not improve
